Practice Emphasis
Maureen Anichini Lemon represents school districts and other educational entities in all aspects of school law, including special education issues, boundary changes, school board elections, and constitutional issues. She works closely with school boards and administrators on matters relating to the rights and responsibilities of school boards, students, and employees.
In the field of employment law, Ms. Lemon advises and represents clients in discipline, discharge, employment-at-will, and discrimination cases. She has helped develop numerous personnel policies. Her labor experience includes negotiating many collective bargaining agreements, handling grievance and interest arbitrations, and coordinating strike management.

With a deep commitment to the educational process, Ms. Lemon was drawn to the practice of law because of its diverse and ever-changing opportunities for study, learning, and analysis. She is passionate about her school law practice, and pursued her advanced education degree to better understand and represent the legal needs of school districts. Ms. Lemon strives to make a difference for her clients by solving problems effectively, with high integrity and a commitment to full and open communication.
Publications and Presentations
Ms. Lemon is a frequent speaker on labor, employment, sexual harassment, special education, and student related topics. Additionally, Ms. Lemon has been an Adjunct Professor at Northern Illinois University College of Law. Ms. Lemon is editor of the firm’s newsletter, Legal Insights for School Districts.
Community Service Activities
Ms. Lemon has served on a community task force to study the consolidation of the Winfield, West Chicago and Benjamin school districts.
Professional Background
Ms. Lemon practiced labor and school law at Vedder Price Kaufman & Kammholz in Chicago before joining Ottosen Britz Kelly Cooper & Gilbert, Ltd. in 1994.
